Systems Change

Transformative Finance: developing investment strategies for system change.

If impact finance is to make an effective and lasting contribution to the big societal challenges the world is facing today, our investment strategies, methods and instruments need to change. Systems practices embrace complexity to provide for the unpredictability and dynamics inherent to system change in order to achieve a transformative impact.
 
But what exactly does this mean for the methods the investing for impact community might use for effective planning and the development of transformative investment strategies? How suitable is a theory of change based on a linear logical framework model in a complex and fast changing environment? And how do we know if we are still financing in line with our investment strategy if we need to be ready to adjust and respond to emergent systemic shifts?
 
In this session we will hear from leading impact finance practitioners about systems practices that have been successfully applied to complement or replace traditional methods for planning and strategy development. We will also identify open questions and gaps and explore whether there is interest for joint action in the transformative finance field.
