Net-zero Prosperity

How can we catalyse a green society and inclusive economy that keeps us within the 1.5 degrees required by the Paris Agreement? Investors for impact play an important role in seeding and growing those innovative companies which can contribute to this future we want. Yet are we doing enough to unlock the capital needed to replicate and scale these innovations? This panel explores the role of venture philanthropy and social investment in enabling the market mechanisms that accelerate our journey to net-zero prosperity. Specifically, we will explore the following themes:
- What we mean by net-zero prosperity (and how this links to our broader economic system)
- How the recent COP27 has “changed the game” around net-zero prosperity
- What is the role of private social investment in accelerating net-zero
- Success stories (tangible examples) of social investments in this space
- Lessons learned from the panelists’ experience (“what is our advice to other investors”?)
- What systemic enablers need to be in place to increase the level of investment into net-zero prosperity

Today’s ecological crises forces us to fundamentally reconsider human-nature relationships.The Embassy of the North Sea is founded on the principle that the North Sea owns itself. We listen to, speak with, and negotiate on behalf of the sea and life in it. During the Holocene Memorial we will say goodbye to an epoch that has ended, now that we have entered a world in which humans have grown into a disruptive force of geological proportions: the Anthropocene.

"Stephen Dawson; one of the founders of Impetus (the UK pioneer of VP), and a founder trustee of EVPA will be talking to Katrin McMillan, the founder and Chief Exec of Hello World. Stephen will talk us through his (and the Impetus) checklist for finding the right charities and social enterprises to back:

  • Do they have an inspiring, backable team?
  • Are they tackling root causes of an important issue affecting substantial numbers of disadvantaged people?
  • Are they open to partnership; is there potential to add value?
  • Do they have ambitious growth plans, including the potential for a step change?
  • Do they have a clear delivery model and evidence that the model is working?; are they capable of making a measurable impact?
  • What is their plan for sustainability; how can I exit?
